The F-15 has always been my favorite fighter. It dominated the world's skies until the F-22. That being said, the F-16 is a thug, the Honey Badger of the air and lb/lb, $/$ the F-16 has been and will remain the king. Especially in a dogfight. If you can only have 1 fighter, you'd be crazy not to take the F16. The stealth fighters are good, but they are high maintenance headaches without a massive military industrial complex behind it.

I wouldn't trust Australia with anything military related given the track record. The NH90 was perfectly fine, then one fell in the sea, inquiry found nothing related to machine problems but they just dug holes in the desert and buried every helicopter they had. I'm not saying Bribes (hello Skorpene!), but... BTW, New Zealand is perfectly happy with its NH90 with textbook availability levels, so... Norway is a peculiar case. Something went VERY wrong with the program, particularly related to deliveries since a program started in 2001still has half of the machines to be delivered to the client. I have no idea why it was so difficult, but sometimes modification and homegrown systems can be a problem in it's own and blaming the producer can be the easy way to get your procurements committee unaccountable for poor choices and bad planning. In the meantime all the other clients got their Helicopters on time and are using them. Funny thing, the SH60 they bought from Sikorsky as replacements are "off shelf" instead of modified as the NH90 they ditched, so, "Cherchez la Femme" I'd say.. Sweden literally customized the helicopter to have a higher cabin ceiling, so this brought, obviously, a noticeable price hyke as the NH90 fuselage had to be redesigned. BTW, if you need an Amazon Van, don't buy a Ferrari and then blame the car because it is expensive and time consuming to maintain. More then 500 NH90 have been delivered so far and are flying every day. I have a nearby base here, I speek to pilots and they are very happy with the performances, handling and availability. Obviously, Compared with a Huey, it is more expensive, mantainance intensive and it need some care by the crew, but it is also much, MUCH more then an engine and a propeller on top. Air rescue for example is carried out from a AW139M base a few Km away with 2 EH101 as back up if needed. Those who used the EH90 intensively in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, like Italy, with high altitudes, hot weather and extremely dusty condition can confirm it was a breeze to use compared to the UH60; for example the propeller design make it easy to land without starting a dust tornado blinding everything and everyone. Loading and unloading wounded and medical equipment is also a breeze thank to the rear ramp. I'm puzzled that the most vocal about the NH90 are nations which just bought a handful of machines, often heavily customized too, and now are complaining, about everything, while others who daily service entire fleets both, in the army and in the Navy, are very happy with its performances. Sometimes you just have to put your shit together and make your mind on what you need and why, before buying. You don't buy and EH101 just to carry around a couple of VIPs (USA presidential Helicopter) asking for so many changes that the original design effectively becomes a different machine and then blame the machine for excessive costs, drop the already purchased machine, buy a different one from another manufacturer and then start spending millions to make it in what you need, effectively doubling the prices of the whole acquisition. LCS, Zumwalt, Constellation, F35C, C27J Spartan: to me it looks more like a bad habit then a an accident about quite a few military programs in recent times.

C'mon guys. The F22 is no longer manufactured and has been essentially dumped by the US Government in favore of the cheaper (and ugly) F35. The Japanese seem to have worked out the kinks and produced a seriously superior aircraft

I am a huge fan of Navy Planes back to World War II, especially the Tomcat after nameless franchises, but I was able to pull off moves you could only imagine in the F16Viper. It sincerely fit like a glove when I mapped the controls in terms of Dogfighting and it can bomb too.

This is pointless... who cares. It's about like the Ford/Chevy argument. It will come down to pilot skills. The better pilot will always win in an F-18 vs. F-16 dogfight. Just my thoughts as a former Viper driver.
